Jeanne d`Arc`s 2-1 win over Al Ahly in the opening match of the African Champions` League was hugely welcomed after a difficult few weeks for Senegalese football.
It is a change from the recriminations that have followed since the departure of former national team coach Bruno Metsu to the United Arab Emirates.
"A great start to a continental dream," said Dakar daily Le Soleil.
Le Matin was just as
complimentary. In their report titled "Commando mission accomplished for the Blue-Whites," it commended their serious approach to the match.
Senegalese clubs have had an inferiority complex when it comes to continental competitions, as they have no record of achievement in Africa.
But Jeanne d`Arc`s win in Cairo has lifted spirits and a large crowd of fans are expected to cheer them on when they face DR Congo`s TP Mazembe in two week`s time.
