Canon and Coton Sport want to keep leadership position (29.09.2003)
Martin Etonge
Since Canon Yaounde and Coton Sport Garoua are topping the division one football table with each having 47 points, fans are expecting that a difference is made this weekend when day 26 actions come up.
Though Canon appear to have an easy task away to league strugglers Stade Bandjoun, it is hard to think they will have their way. It will however, depend greatly on the morale of Canon players following their shameful Champions League home defeat to USM Alger last week.
May be they could get over the shock and make Stade victims of their firing power.
On the contrary, Coton Sport should be enjoying one of their best moments after qualifying for the semi final of the Caf Cup. Their high morale could enable them crush visiting Unisport Bafang.
Unisport recently refused to play a return leg cup game in Garoua. It is an opportunity for Coton Sport to offer Unisport what they had been keeping since then.
Apart from the fight for sole leadership, Bamboutos
Mbouda, PWD Bamenda and Mount Cameroon FC Buea will want to keep their title dreams alive.
It will be an uphill task for Bamboutos who travel to Akonolinga to face Renaissance who are threatened by relegation. PWD will also find it hard in Douala against Cintra Yaounde who have lost a good quantity of steam, but now have a chance to catch up.
Mount Cameroon host their permanent enemies, Union Douala. After losing the cup race, Mount Cameroon have only the league to save their season. A win may encourage them to fight on for at least a place on the continent next year. While Union have their pride at stake, having lost several their two previous games.
Meantime, Caiman Douala and Tonnerre Yaounde have a chance to push the other further into the relegation zone. The battle of strugglers will be in Douala where Caiman will be without a leader following the resignation of their president, Charles Mboule.
Other day 26 games:
Sable Batie Vs. Racing Bafoussam
Fovu Baham Vs. Victoria United Limbe
