CAN 2010: Teams Brace Up for Final Showdown (07.01.2010)

While some teams are fine tuning preparations, others have already arrived in Angola.
As the countdown to the kick off of the 27th edition of the African cup of Nations draws nigh, participating countries are fine tuning training on foreign soil while others have already arrived at the scene of action in Angola and are eagerly waiting for the beginning of hostilities.
While Gabon and Zambia are almost coming to the end of the preparations in South Africa, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon set out for Kenya last Tuesday January 5 where they will stay until January 11 when they leave for Lubango where they will play their group matches. The Lions are scheduled to play a friendly against Kenya on January 9, ahead of their departure for Angola.
As concerns early arrivals in Angola, Burkina Faso has been the first nation to reach its venue in Cabinda since the last December 31.
The hosting side ‘’Palancas Negras’’ left Lisbon in Portugal yesterday following a five-weeks training camp in that country’s southern region of Algarve. During their stay in Portugal, Angola played a one-all draw against Gambia. Another team which
arrived in Angola yesterday January 6 is the Nigeria’s Super Eagles who will be equally flying from South Africa like Gabon and Zambia. Ghana and Algeria equally arrived in Angola. Algeria will be flying in from France where they have been training whereas Ghana will be coming in from South Africa.
While most teams took up bases in South Africa, Mali travelled to Qatar where they took part in a mini tournament with some Asian countries. Their moral is boosted by the fact that they won a bronze medal in the tournament. Cote d’Ivoire one of the major contenders of winning the trophy this year, rounded up their training in Tanzania with a victory over the local side Malawi is to be the first Southern African nation to arrive in Angola this week ahead of the opening ceremony of the 2010 Orange Africa Cup of Nations. The Flames arrive in Luanda today Thursday, January 7 from Swaziland after playing Ghana in an international friendly in Mbabane 24 hours earlier.
Mozambique will follow suite tomorrow Friday, January 8 from South Africa after wrapping up their training camp in Bloemfontein. Zambia is expected to land in Luanda from Johannesburg on Sunday, January 10.
