French "Preacher" For Cameroon Football (09.05.2005)

Patrick Prêcheur is the first General Manager of the Cameroon Football Federation.
One of the highlights of last Saturday’s meetings of officials of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, was the appointment of a General Manager. French born, Patrick Prêcheur was chosen to handle the administrative, financial and technical aspects of the federation for the next two years. Most Cameroonians were hearing this name for the first time last Saturday. This can be understood. Patrick Prêcheur is not among the most prominent French football actors today. He might have been popular in the sixties when he played for Association Sportive Nancy — Lorraine, France with Michel Platini (today vice President of UEFA), as his teammate. This was from 1968 to 1975. The defender was not a first choice player as he went into the pitch just 23 times in six seasons. Later on, Patrick Prêcheur became a coach and took charge of the team of the honorary division (amateur football) of AS Nancy Lorraine. In 2000, he left Nancy and became coach of another club, Eloyes, still of the honorary division.
These credentials notwithstanding, it is on Patrick Prêcheur that the management of Cameroon’s Football has been placed. He literally replaces the then Secretary General of FECAFOOT as he is in charge of the day-to-day
running of the federation. Patrick Prêcheur, who would exercise his function on the basis of a contract, will thus be the one to manage all national football competitions as well as participate in the administration of international football competitions. The new General Manager, will ensure that decisions taken by the General Assembly, Executive Committee, the judicial structures and permanent commissions of FECAFOOT are properly implemented. He is answerable to and receives instructions from his appointee, FECAFOOT President, and accomplishes all the administrative and financial functions of the General Directorate.
By virtue of his indispensable function in the federation, Patrick Prêcheur, will have a great role to play in all the decision making bodies of FECAFOOT. He is part of the General Assembly, Executive Committee, and all permanent commissions. The task of making public the decisions of these bodies are also his prerogative. Prêcheur will not work alone as Louis Marie Ondoua, delegate of the Executive Committee, would assist him in this function. Both men will officially take the command baton of FECAFOOT on Wednesday, June 15, 2005.
In effect, the present changes are to enable the management of FECAFOOT adapt to the changing time. FECAFOOT will henceforth be managed in the same way as the World Football Governing Body, FIFA.
