"Arsenal cannot stop me playing for Nigeria" says Kanu (08.12.2001)
LONDON,
Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu is adamant that the London club cannot prevent him taking a break from the premier league to play for Nigeria in next month`s African Nations Cup.
``Neither Arsenal nor (coach) Arsene Wenger can stop me going,`` Kanu was quoted as saying in The Mirror newspaper on Saturday.

``The rules are very clear and they cannot be changed overnight. It`s unfortunate but Arsenal didn`t just find out about this today.
``I am always happy to represent Nigeria. I love my country. I am sure I can regain my Arsenal place afterwards.``
The African Nations Cup starts in Mali on January 19 and lasts three weeks.
