Cameroon axe Pierre Wome (30.10.2005)
Pierre Wome has been dropped by Cameroon as the Indomitable Lions start preparations for next year`s African Cup of Nations finals.
Although coach Artur Jorge is calling up 48 players, all based overseas, no reason was given for the exclusion of the Inter Milan defender.
Wome missed a stoppage-time penalty against Egypt to ruin Cameroon`s hopes of a place in next year`s World Cup finals.
Jules Frederic Nyougha, assistant coach of the Lions, did not explain the reasons for Wome`s exclusion at a news conference.
"For the Cup of Nations, we will pick all the players who played against Egypt and add four or five new names," Nyougha said.
But defender Raymond Kalla, Ngom Kome and striker Pius Ndiefi, who also played in the game against Egypt, were excluded from the 48-man list.
A notable returnee to the squad is midfielder Achille Emana, who has been in the international wilderness for nine months.
The first of Jorge`s training camps, which takes place in Paris between 6 and 10 November, will have 29 new players vying for places in the squad.

Goalkeeper Mathurin Kameni and striker Herve Tum, who made their mark with the country`s youth sides, will be hoping to regain spots in the senior side.
The second training camp, which will be punctuated by a test game, will last between 12 and 16 November, also in Paris.
This session will involve 17 players, including goalkeeper Idriss Kameni of Espanyol, who returns to the side after a dispute with Artur Jorge.
