     `Mission impossible` for Cameroon (24.03.2005)

Cameroon midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba says qualifying for the 2006 World Cup will be a `Herculean task` for the Indomitable Lions.

The 24-year-old, who plays for English Premiership side Aston Villa, does not fancy his country`s chances of qualifying for Germany 2006.

"It is very difficult and hard because we are four points adrift of Group Five leaders Ivory Coast," he told BBC Sport.

"It will take a miracle to qualify and it is a Herculean task."

Djemba-Djemba blamed Cameroon`s third position in Group Five on couple of away draws, particularly the 1-1 draw in Sudan in October.

The holding midfielder has become a regular feature for Cameroon after his debut for the Lions in January 2002 and he went on to win an African Cup of Nations winners` medal later that year.

But Djemba-Djemba will not play against Sudan in Yaounde on Sunday because he is injured and he has been replaced in

the squad by defender Armand Tchami of FC Thun in Switzerland.

"For me it is important we make it to the World Cup," Djemba-Djemba explained.

"Cameroon has had five World Cups under their belt and it would be nice if we could make it a sixth in Germany next year."

Cameroon football has been under increasing pressure in recent months from fans and media following the poor performance of its national team in recent time which led to the sacking of former manager Winfred Schaefer late last year.

And Djemba-Djemba blames the German coach, who led the Indomitable Lions to Nations Cup success in 2002, for Cameroon`s poor form.

"It is unfortunate that Cameroon under Schaefer did not fare well in the past two years and that is why we are were we are now," he explained.

"It is difficult for us now."

Cameroon are now coached by Portugal`s Artur Jorge, who took charge in January.
