They were several Cameroonian players on the score sheet again this weekend.
The good shape exhibited by Cameroonian footballers last week continued this weekend as several of them figured again on the scoreboard. This time, it was the turn of Geremi Njitap, Jean Paul Yoncha, Thierry Fidjeu and Aloys Nong to make the country proud in their respective championships.
Geremi Sorel Njitap contributed in Newcastle’s 3-3 victory over division two side, Huddersfield Town in the Carling Cup. A powerful left footer from the Cameroonian midfielder, gave the victory goal to his team.
Little known, Jean Paul Yontcha was equally very decisive in the 2-0 victory of Beleneses over A. Naval in the Portuguese championship. He did not only score his second goal of the season but also gave a decisive pass to his team mate for the second goal. Fidjeu Thierry
got the lone goal for his club, Diyarbakispor when they bowed 1-3 to Fenerbahce in the Turkish championship. It was his third goal of the season. Another Cameroonian who signalled himself on the score sheet in the diaspora over the weekend is Aloys Nong who plays for Malines. He contributed a goal in the 3-1 victory of his club over Beerschot.
Cameroon’s reference in international football, Eto’o Fils was equally very instrumental in Inter’s 4-0 trouncing of AC Milan. Eto’o demonstrated in the match that he was more concerned about the victory of his club than scoring personal goals. He orchestrated the penalty that transformed the outcome of the encounter when he was fouled by Gattuso in Milan’s vital area for a penalty that was transformed by Milito. A spirit Cameroonians will like to see him demonstrate in the national team where he was recently appointed captain by Paul Le Guen.
