Nigeria star admits Cameroon are ahead (18.05.2002)
Taribo West has conceded that Nigeria are not the best team from Africa at the moment - but added that there is still time for them to catch Cameroon before the start of the tournament.
Nigeria might have beaten Scotland on Thursday but West, who is currently without a club after quitting Kaiserslautern, says that Cameroon are still ahead.
He said: "We are not the best team in
Africa, Cameroon are. They are the leaders of African football, the team we must all emulate.
"If we are to succeed in Japan next month we must be like Cameroon. We must believe that we can beat England, Sweden and Argentina."
Cameroon are undefeated since hiring German coach Winfried Schafer and won the African Nations Cup in Mali in February after beating Nigeria in the semi-finals.
