Interpools 2002 : CFA Forty-Two Million Given To Clubs (04.10.2002)
FECAFOOT has made available the sum of CFA 3million to each of the 14 teams that have qualified for the tournament.
The 14 teams that will be competing in this year`s Interpools tournament will for the first time benefit from CFA 3 million each. This money comes from the coffers of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT). Officials of this federation have been sanguine intimating that the money will facilitate the participation of the various clubs in the competition that goes afoot on the 19th of this month in Douala and Yaounde. This effort for which the club officials have given the management of FECAFOOT a pad on the back is a great relief to most teams in the tournament that is often marred by financial trouble causing some clubs to crash out at the take-off.
The largesse from FECAFOOT is part of the world cup financial fallout which the Indomitable Lions reaped from South Korea - Japan 2002. From the total sum of CFA 1billion
eight hundred million, CFA 120 million was kept aside as subvention to division two clubs and organisation of the 2002 Interpools competition. FECAFOOT according to its management has lived up to expectation; matching words with actions.
The challenge for now is that of team managers who have been told to judiciously manage the funds in order to attain their objectives.
The Iya`s administration is accredited for acquiring the ultra-modern two-floor storey building that now serves as the headquarters of the federation in Tsinga -Yaounde. This is the lone feasible legacy of the federation in recent times as attention is gradually being tilted towards acquiring sports infrastructure.
The assistance given to clubs will abate the excesses committed by some club officials who run the teams as personal enterprises. FECAFOOT officials believe that the money is a stitch in time that is likely to save nine.
