Batigol faces major setback in his bid to make World Cup squad (25.03.2002)
Roma striker Gabriel Batistuta has been left out of Argentina`s squad for the World Cup warm-up game against Cameroon on 27 March. Batistuta, who is Argentina`s record goal scorer with 55 goals, has played only once for his country in the last year.
He is now increasingly uncertain whether he will be selected in Argentina`s squad for the World Cup. Coach Marcelo Bielsa`s preferred strike force is Lazio pair Hernan Crespo and Claudio Lopez.
With Javier Saviola, Ariel Ortega, and Kily Gonzalez able to play up front, Batistuta must hope his form improves in Serie A for him to catch Bielsa`s eye.

Rangers`35-year-old Claudio Caniggia, who is named once again after returning from the international wilderness for Argentina`s last game with Wales in Cardiff, will also be in contention.
The venue for the match against the 2002 African Cup of Nations champions has yet to be decided. The foreign based players in the squad are: German Burgos, Pablo Cavallero, Jose Chamot, Walter Samuel, Roberto Ayala, Mauricio Pochettino, Diego Placente, Juan Pablo Sorin, Matias Almeyda, Javier Zanetti, Juan Sebastian Veron, Marcelo Gallardo, Pablo Aimar, Claudio Lopez, Hernan Crespo, Gustavo Lopez, Kily Gonzalez, Claudio Caniggia.
