Oliseh and Ikpeba face Nigeria axe (21.02.2002)
Nigeria stalwarts Sunday Oliseh and Victor Ikpeba could lose their places in the national side as part of new coach Festus Onigbinde`s re-structuring plans.
“Some of our players are long past their prime and I am surprised that they are still in the team,” he warned.
Onigbinde, who replaced Shaibu Amodou as manager this week, has been given one week by the Nigerian Football Association (NFA) to submit a blueprint of his plans for next summer`s World Cup.

Hinting that the emphasis would be on youth, he said: “Getting young players into the national team has been long overdue. I have a duty to perform and I hope to meet the expectations of Nigerians."
While Onigbinde stopped short of naming those in danger of losing their places in the squad, it is expected that Borussia Dortmund`s Sunday Oliseh and Real Betis` Victor Ikpeba – both of whom disappointed in the African Nations Cup – will be among the first to be axed.
