Zimbabwe have won the Cosafa Cup for the second time after a comfortable 2-0 victory over Malawi in Harare, lifting the trophy 4-1 on aggregate.
After struggling to find their rhythm, the Warriors took the lead in the 36th minute with a spectacular left-footed volley from outside the penalty box by Charles Yohane.
Peter Ndlovu slotted in a pass from his brother Adam in the 66th minute to put the game beyond the reach of the Flames.
The Zimbabwe defence again proved reliable, with an outstanding performance by Dazzy Kapenya, and Malawi struggled to create scoring chances.
"It´s a great honour, the players did a great job and coach Sunday Marimo has
workedvery hard for this achievement," said Zimbabwe captain Peter Ndlovu.
Ndlovu arrived two hours before the game after playing in Sheffield United´s 1-0 home defeat to Sunderland in the English first division on Saturday.
Malawi coach Alan Gillet was disappointed at the Flames´ lifeless display.
"It was a damp squib for us, we were toothless, Zimbabwe showed us how to play and it was no contest," he said.
Malawi were the losing finalists in 2002, when they were beaten 4-1 on aggregate by South Africa.
Zimbabwe have won three trophies since independence in 1980, having lifted the 2000 Cosafa Cup and the Cecafa Cup in 1985.
