Vincent Perricard : "I Have a Lot to Offer Cameroon" (16.08.2005)

Vincent Perricard talks of his first step with the Indomitable Lions.

This is the first time that you have been called to camp with the Indomitable Lions. What are your feelings?

I am very happy to have been called to join the Cameroonian national football team and to be part of this training camp. As you know, it is not always easy to join a group. I am a bit nervous as I am not used to most of those around. But I am meeting people and working hard to know all those around so that I can integrate the group with ease.

    What are your aspirations?

I have come to give my best. I will train well so as to show the managers and my colleague that I have something to offer the team. I do not know the team very well. So, I cannot say with certainly their strong and week points. But I know my qualities and I know that I am a good attacker who is here to score goals. I will observe a lot and see what I can offer.

You are joining the team at a moment when there is a great challenge — win the match against Côte d’Ivoire.

    I am

aware of this challenge. But I am not afraid of the match against Côte d’Ivoire. It is a very important encounter for Cameroon and by implication all of us. I will give my best, by scoring goals, if I am selected to defend the national colours on September 04. I strongly believe that we would win the match.

Many Cameroonians do not know you; so who is Vincent Perricard?

I am a Cameroonian. I was born in Cameroon and brought to France when I was four years. I grew up here (France). I was trained in St Etienne, a school reputed for training young footballers. I have been playing professional football for sometime now. I played in Juventus, Arsenal, the French junior national team and now Portsmouth in England. My merits are therefore indisputable. I am still 22 years and know there is a lot that I can offer to Cameroon. My coming back to Cameroon is because I know that I am 100 per cent Cameroonian and proud to be one.

    Any message to Cameroonians?

I am very happy to be part of the Cameroon national team. I will give my best for the honour of the country.
