Eto`o frustrated by Cameroon goal return (10.06.2002)
Cameroon striker Samuel Eto`o has admitted his disappointment at only scoring once in the World Cup so far. "I was hoping I would get many goals," he said.
Eto`o, who scored six goals in 30 games for Real Mallorca last season, has struggled to make an impact, scoring his solitary goal against Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
But he insists he is doing well and people should focus more on how the team are performing as a whole. "I think I`m in form. I`m working well in training," he said.
"I will be in the first XI against Germany and I will do my best for us to qualify for the next round.
"However, the fans should know that we play as a team and we all contribute to the victories. It is important for them to recognise what I have done.
"In the game against Ireland, for example, I worked hard to set up Patrick Mboma, who finished well. In
thenext game, Nijtap did the same for me to get a goal.
"Scoring is not the only thing that matters. It`s unfortunate that people don`t know that. The role of our goalkeeper Alioum Boukar is as important as those who play up front.
"Even the role of reserve goalkeeper Idriss Kameni cannot be neglected, because he must train well to help the others stay in form."
Cameroon face elimination from the tournament if they do not beat Germany on Tuesday, assuming the Republic of Ireland beat Saudi Arabia.
Eto`o is aware of the dire situation, but determined that the Indomitable Lions will give everything to beat the Germans.
"We are working as a team and we are aware of the worries of our fans. These worries are genuine. So we have to concentrate all our energy to defeat Germany and qualify for the next round to satisfy the fans and ourselves."
