Lions in Quest of New Blood (04.11.2005)
The national football team starts training for the 2006 African Cup of Nations this weekend.
Two successive training camps would be organised in the outskirts of Paris, France, beginning Sunday to get the Lions set for the 25th African Cup of Nations to take place in Egypt from January 20 to February 10, 2006. The first training camp would essentially seek to fish new talents for the national football team, while the second will be to prepare the team for a friendly encounter on November 15 against the Atlas Lions of Morocco.
Following the programme published by head coach, Artur Jorge, the first training camp would take place from November 06 to 10, 2005 at Centre Leonard de Vinci, in the outskirts of Paris. Some 29 Cameroonian footballers in the diaspora would be part of the camp. Most of those invited would be entering the Lion’s den for the first time or have played sparingly for the national football team. Hard work would therefore be the watch word during the two daily training sessions as the 29 players have to fight hard to integrate the prestigious circle of the senior national
football team.
The players whose dexterity, creativity, stamina and combativeness would convince the coaches, would join 17 other players, all regulars of the national football team, for the second training camp. Those not selected would be liberated on Thursday, November 10. The second training camp, to culminate in a friendly match, would also take place at Centre Leonard de Vinci. It will run from November 11 to 15, 2005 and would be used in preparing the Lions for the African Cup of Nations. The players would train twice each day. All but one training session would take place in camera. A press conference would be granted by the players and team managers on the eve of the friendly.
Cameroon would face Morocco on November 15. The duel of the two Lions who are still recovering from the shock caused by their non-qualification for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, will take place at the stade départemental Robert Bobin in Evry-Bondoufle located in the outskirts of Paris as from 7:30 pm GMT. Some 20 players would be part of the squad. This means at least three new faces would be part of the show.
