Cintra take command of division one league (14.05.2003)
Martin Etonge
For the first time this season, Cintra Yaounde are on top of the
National division one foot ball league following their 2-0 home win over Union Douala.
They were helped to that position at the end of day 14 by the failures
Of PWD Bamenda and Bamboutos Mbouda who lost respectively to Sable Batie (0-1) and Victoria United (0-2).
Though they were on equal forces, Cintra had the luck to net in two
goals, one in each half. First it was Cyril Tchana and then Jackson Eyinga at the close of the game. However, the leadership role may not last as they are just a point above PWD, Bamboutos and mainly Canon Yaounde who had no action as they travel to the DR Congo for their African champions league game against St. Eloi Lupopo.
The trio of Bamboutos, Canon and PWD, who were losing for the first
Time
inBamenda, count 24 points a piece. PWD who made history by winning all first six games of the season have since ran into a management crisis that has spoiled their winning drive.
In other day 14 actions, hosts Victoria United were very elated to beat
Bamboutos, while the champions of draws, Unisport Bafang recorded a
Clear 4-2 win away in Douala over Caiman.
In spite of their hard earned one all draw with Racing in Bafoussam,
Tonnerre Yaounde have gone to the bottom of the table. Stade Bandjoun defeated Renaissance 1-0 and together with Caiman joined Tonnerre on 12 points each. But the goal advantage rule has placed Tonnerre first from bottom.
Only six games were played as clubs involved in continental
Competitions like Canon, Coton Sport Garoua and Mount Cameroon were allowed time to prepare for those matches.
