Portsmouth are interested in signing Gérémi (25.07.2006)

BENNI McCARTHY, the South Africa international, will open contract talks with Blackburn Rovers today after FC Porto gave the go-ahead for the striker’s switch to Ewood Park. Rob Moore, McCarthy’s business manager, said that Porto have agreed a financial package with Blackburn which is thought to include a £3 million transfer fee.
Portsmouth are interested in signing Gérémi, the Chelsea midfield player. Middlesbrough are among the clubs to have been put off signing the Cameroon player because of his £40,000-a-week wages.
Portsmouth are believed to be willing to pay Manchester City the asking price of £4 million for Sylvain Distin, the defender. The South Coast club also want Juan Pablo Sorín, the Villarreal defender, who would cost £2.5 million. Bolton Wanderers are also interested

in the full back. FC Bruges are expected to sign Brian Priske, the defender, from Portsmouth.
Fulham may lose out on signing Tomas Ujfalusi after the Fiorentina defender said that he wanted to stay with the club, who have been relegated to Serie B after the match-fixing scandal in Italy.
Sheffield United have agreed a deal with Leeds United to sign Rob Hulse, the striker, for an initial fee of £2.2 million. West Bromwich Albion are trying to sign Dan Shittu, the Queens Park Rangers defender, and David Thomson, the midfield player.
Crystal Palace are expected to sign James Scowcroft, from Coventry City, for £500,000.
