Patrick Mboma has signed for Premiership outfit Sunderland on loan until the end of the season, with a view to a £4million permanent transfer.
The 31-year-old international arrived at the Stadium of Light today and was quick to agree terms with Sunderland boss Peter Reid, who is seeking a striker to partner Kevin Phillips.
Mboma is currently nursing a foot injury which forced the former African Player of the Year to miss his
country`s African Nations Cup final success over Senegal, but he still ended as the tournament`s leading scorer with three goals.
The striker has tired of life in Italy after failing to secure a regular first-team place at Parma.
He will not need a work permit to play on Wearside as he holds a French passport - which means he should have a baptism of fire in Sunderland`s derby clash with Newcastle United on Sunday, February 24.
