Costa Rica to file complaint against Cameroon (18.01.2002)
The Costa Rican Football Federation will reportedly file a formal complaint against Cameroon for failing to field their A team in a friendly.
"We are going to present our claim to FIFA because (Cameroon) did not fulfil the contract," federation president Hermes Navarro told Costa Rican television network Canal Siete: "We have proof that they did not deliver what they promised."
Both sides agreed to the friendly in December with the encounter supposed to
have matched a pair of World Cup sides against each other. Instead, Costa Rican officials claim that Cameroon sent a lesser side to participate.
Costa Rican officials said they believed Cameroon would field the majority of the squad that captured the gold medal in Sydney 2000. Instead, the side was comprised of only domestic-based players.
Costa Rica won the match, 2-1. The Ticos had wanted to use the match as preparation for both the World Cup and the Gold Cup.
