- Nigeria enhanced its title prospects with a 5-1 quarter final hammering of Australia in the wo rld Under 17 soccer championship here today.
Australia held the strong Nigerians to 1-0 at half time after a 24 th minute goal from Femi Opabunmi.
But the goal poacher shattered the Joeys with two goals in ten minutes in the second half to take a 3-0 lead.
Suleiman Mohammed then scored in the 81st minute and Omonigho Temile added the fifth fo ur minutes later.
Australia`s lone score came four
minutes from full time through Matthew Engele.
In an earlier match, France upset defending champion Brazil with a 2-1 success.
France opened the score just before half time through a Florent Pongolle goal with Anthony Le Tallec making it 2-0 at half time.
Brazil, winner of the last tw o world youth titles, scored midway through the second half but missed numerous opportunities.
France will play the winner of the Argentina-Mali quarter final while Nigeria will match up against either Costa Rica or Burkina Faso.
