FECAFOOT’s New Vision (19.10.2006)
The New General Manager of Fecafoot outlined his programme of action in a press conference yesterday.
In his first public declaration since his appointment into office, the new General Manager of the Cameroon football federation, Jean Lambert Nang, has said he will be working to modernise the management of Cameroon football. Modernisation of the administrative system, stringent financial management and assistance to clubs involved in international competitions, as well as ease relations with the world football governing body-FIFA, CAF and the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education.
Jean Lambert Nang was speaking yesterday, at the FECAFOOT headquarters in Yaounde, during a press conference to aimed at presenting his programme of action. The General Manager said he will be working to promote youth football as it constitutes the future of Cameroon football. In addition, Jean Lambert Nang said, he will equally endeavour to promote marginalised categories like female football, beach soccer and in-door football. He advocated for football clubs to have a popular base so as to improve on attendance in stadia across the country. He also called on government to grant financial assistance to clubs and enact a law enabling companies to sponsor
clubs, so that players can be free from material concerns and focus solely on the game of football.
Since his coming to office some two months ago, Jean Lambert Nang said he has instilled discipline among the workers, punctuality at work and put in place measures to curb the excessive use of water, electricity and telephone. He said the federation has reduced the number of office phones from which one can call outside the country, put hand sets at the disposal of the staff and gave them airtime telephone credit cards according to hierarchy each and every-one’s category. The General Manager also announced some stringent measures such as the streamlining of the number of journalists from a media organ to be accredited for a match. Those not accredited, will have to pay for their entry tickets though they will have the possibility to carry a badge.
Fielding questions from journalists as to why he had to act as financial controller, pay master, GM and ticket seller during matches, he said he was just doing so for now as the organisational chart of FECAFOOT doesn’t provide for such duty posts. He however disclosed that plans were underway to create a new organisational chart for FECAFOOT with provision for those duty posts that are lacking.
