France steadfast to play in Australia (02.10.2001)
LONDON,
- World Cup holders France have announced their intention to play in Australia.
Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger and vice-president David Dein are against the callups of their French internationals for that match to be held on November 11. They insist that the long trip will tire them. Arsenal have set up a petition asking FIFA to
hold the match in a European country. Eleven other European clubs, including Manchester United, support Arsenal.
However, French FA secretary Gerard Enault is steadfast in their intention. He told FIFA chief Michael Zen Ruffinen: "Should the English clubs continue to pressure us, we will consider a game in Australia."
