CAMEROON`S hopes of reaching a fifth World Cup finals were shattered overnight when they missed an injury-time penalty which gave them a draw with Egypt and sent Cote d`Ivoire to the finals in Germany next summer instead.

Pierre Wome`s injury-time spotkick came off the post as the game ended deadlocked.

Rodolph Douala had put Cameroon ahead in the 21st minute but Mohamed

Shawky then levelled for the Pharoahs 10 minutes from time.

Wome`s miss allowed Cote dIvoire, who won 3-1 in Sudan, to qualify for their first-ever finals.

Cote d`Ivoire finished on top of Group Three with 22 points, one ahead of Cameroon.

The Indomitable Lions had been five points behind Ivory Coast at one stage in the qualifying campaign but their comeback was crowned by a 3-2 triumph in Abidjan last month courtesy of an Achille Webo hat-trick.
