Last Saturday, major changes took place in the management of Cameroon’s football. The most controversial, if we have to judge from the reaction of the public, is the appointment of an expatriate General Manager to head Cameroon football Federation, FECAFOOT.
The question many Cameroonians are asking is: was it really necessary to go in for an expatriate GM when several Cameroonians (who believe they are ripe for the function) were ready for the job? Is it a quest for efficiency, as is the case with coaches, or simply
apenchant for the white man?
Well, one school of thought holds that an expatriate manager will be beyond all forms of manipulations that Cameroonians are fond of. Fine! But judging from Patrick Precheur’s not-so-rich CV (player from 1968 to 1975, 20 league matches played in six seasons and coach of the honorary division of AS Nancy Lorraine, France), will he be up to the task?
The wish of all Cameroonians is that the French preacher will bring good news for Cameroon football at this time when there is very little to smile about. Good luck!
