Indomitable Lions await Libya
M. Etonge
Cameroon’s national squad continue camping in Yaounde as they prepare to host Libya in a Group 3 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Sunday.
The team has two training sessions per day in Yaounde, either in the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium, venue of Sunday’s game or at the sports grounds of BEAC, the Central Africa Central Bank.
Hundreds of fans always turn out to lively up the training sessions. The first part of training, according to the coaches, is based on building the physical resistance of the players, while the second part nearer the match will concentrate on technical and tactical aspects.
After one of the training sessions Fecafootonline.com talked to star midfielder Geremi Njitap.
Geremi how can you evaluate the training done so far? It is as usual or new things are happening?
So far we have be training very hard. It has not been easy because it’s the end of the season for the players from abroad and it is very hot for us too. In the morning it is really difficult for us to start training, but we are they ready to offer the best.
What is the coach saying?
First we have to be fit and gradually finish up with the preparation plan. Step by step we’ll be ready for the match on Sunday.
How do you foresee the game against Libya? Is it going to be very difficult as it was perceived before the last game against Benin or it is now less frightful?
There is no easy game because I think Libya are also looking forward to qualifying for the World Cup finals. So they will be coming for the three points too. Remember they had a great result against Ivory Coast which has certainly galvanised them.
But we have to be focused on our ambition and game to harvest the three points of the game.
How do you see the chances of Cameroon qualifying?
Of course, our destiny is now in our hands more than before the last World Cup qualifier against Benin. Now we are only two points adrift of Ivory Coast. Before then the gap was four point. I think we have the possibility and great chance of qualifying for Germany 2006.
